Are your sales figures dropping? Is your online store not giving you enough sales?
More often than not, it just so happens that we avoid doing certain small things because they seem trivial and unnecessary. But more often than not, these are the things that make a huge difference. Here are seven things that spell absolute disaster for your online store. Check out if you are doing even one of them.
- Lots of ad banners
Is your site full of ads and banners? They could be external ads or just banners of your own products, banner ads are distracting. Imagine the frustration of your users when they come to your site and it looks like times square with things flashing here and there and product ads flying all over the screen. They will totally forget what they came to buy in the first place and leave. A few ads are okay but too many of them can be a total buzzkill.
- Losing the search box
Most people make the mistake of thinking that the search tool isn’t necessary and hence lose it. Don’t be most people. Search tool is extremely important. A study says that ‘customers who use an onsite search box result in an average conversion rate of 2.4% against the 1.7% rate of customers who don’t.’ Don’t lose out on those numbers. I’m sure even you would have used the search box on an ecommerce website. It’s just so convenient to find exactly what you are looking for via the search box.
- Being image-free
People buy what they see. If there are no images, there is no way to gain their trust. Additionally, if you have options like click to zoom or multiple photos of the product from different angles, then it is easier for your customers to get a real-time feel of it and click on BUY right away!
- Not being mobile optimized
While most think that having a mobile responsive store is a choice, today, it has become a necessity. Deloitte predicts that mobile will influence 10-15% of store retail sales by 2017. Not only that, according to Mobile Behavior Report by ExactTarget in 2014, 27% of consumers will leave a site if it is not mobile-optimized. That’s more than a quarter of your customers, and all because your site isn’t mobile optimized. Now you see why it’s an absolute necessity?
- Not categorizing your products
Imagine just listing down thousands of products. What’s worse? Categorizing them incorrectly. Make sure you have control of your product categorization so that they are grouped logically. That way the users can buy them easily and also search for other products in the same category thereby increasing sales.
- ‘Social media? Bah! Humbug!’
Everyone is on social media, how can you not be there!? Show off your store, make people aware of your existence. With advancement in technology, you can now also buy products straight off Facebook with Facebook shopping. Social media is a huge channel for inflow of customers to your site.
- Lengthy checkout process
Does your checkout procedure involve like 5-10 pages to navigate to reach the payment gateway? If your customers are bombarded with a million questions just to pay for something they already like and want, they are more likely to leave the procedure half way. Keep your checkout as short as possible, preferably a single page. Get Elastic discovered an increase in sales by 21.8% for users checking out with a one page checkout! So be sure to keep it simple.
